What each of the groups of people that we have discussed thus far share, is being treated with suspicion due to their societal treatment as somehow not fully belonging (here, I am talking about the Chinese in Honolulu, Koreans in Befu, and Okinawans on the battlefront). We have also seen how these people fought back at times, and at others, simply tried to carve out other socialities to survive and to live out their own ideas of abundance. We have not yet discussed place-making in terms of the creation of art, of music, of literature, etc. What place do you think that these things, which we might put together as “cultural productions,” has in analyses of the eruption of political struggle? Your observations do not have to be based on research, per se. Think about how art, music, literature, and other cultural productions have shifted your own understanding of belonging, of community, and of the kind of world you want to bring into being, in meaningful ways.

Art, music, and literature are very important ways for me to understand different cultures and societies in the world. Different art pieces, such like painting, will have huge difference between cultures. For example, we can compare a worldwide famous painting and a famous one from my country. The famous piece Monna Lisa from Leonardo da Vinci and Fu Chun Shan Ju Tu from Huang Gongwang. It is obvious to see the huge difference between these two. Da Vinci paint this in a vivid way that we can clearly see the details from Monna Lisa’s face. While the ancient Chinese work tend to give a way to imagine for the audience.

Culture production is a way for new generation to inherit the culture elements from old generations, like the way to paint, the way to sing, and how to write books. More importantly, culture production can carry spirit from the author to the audience in a indirect way. For example, a politician is giving a speech and he tell the public: we need to build a strong army! Then some of them may not believe that, since the politician has a obvious purpose that he want benefit to his career. When that happen in culture production, like if there is a good book or movie about the war and how the country need strong army, people will be emotionally understand the need to build a strong army.

So. culture production is a good way to impact public’s believe about the society. When apply that into politic, it can bring big influence to eruption of political struggle.
